The Update

Yesterday, I had a doctor's appointment. Things are looking fine... weight gain is up to 20 lbs. (oink, oink), blood pressure is normal, and Isaac's heartbeat was steady and strong at 134 beats per minute. There are three doctors at the practice I go to and yesterday we saw my official OB/GYN. Guess what he thinks? He thinks that if I go full-term, the baby could be 9 or 9 1/2 lbs! Holy crap! He looked over at Josh and said, "I wonder where that comes from." LOL

We are both praying that in 2-3 weeks, my body will start to progress on it's own and I can labor and deliver naturally (early is fine by me!).We visited the birthing center at the hospital next and that was a big eye opener! It just made things seem a lot more real. The birthing suites are actually quite nice and big. Josh was happy to see that they had a pull-out couch for him. I was happy to hear that I get to stay in my same room the whole time through labor, delivery, and recovery. The nurses were all very helpful and friendly... although it was a bit freaky to hear the one say, "We'll see you later this month!" as we walked out.

I would have to agree with the others - typically Wilhelm babies haven't been over 8 pounds - Maybe he's just long! All my friends who've had babies recently had the doctors guessing the weights from the ultrasounds and they were always over. It's hard for them to be accurate. But then again, they could be wrong in the other direction.

Did you ask the doctor if the baby was over 8 pounds if they would let you deliver vaginally or if they would go ahead and do a C-Section? I know a lot of doctors don't like to deliver if the baby is too big vaginally because of the risk of the baby getting stuck in the birth canal or the cord getting wrapped up. Just make sure you ask so you are prepared and can help make a decision beforehand.
